Usually Type 1 diabetes occurs in children or young adults and Type 2 diabetes most often occurs in people over the age of 40. Gestational diabetes is another form of diabetes caused due to high blood glucose levels during pregnancy. This type of diabetes usually disappears after pregnancy, but women and their offspring are at an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in their life as well.
